How Do Small Businesses Get The Most Out Of Their Marketing Efforts?

Recently a client came to me to help launch a marketing campaign. The Client wanted to create a quiz to engage customers in determining areas of their life where their self-care was lacking. Customers would complete the quiz and then enter their email to access their quiz results, thus generating leads for their business. The Client planned to have the quiz pop up when users arrived at their site and then blast a link to the site across their social media channels. In theory, this appeared like a sound plan to push engagement on their platform and generate interest in their services.

Before jumping right in, signing on as the consultant, and fulfilling the project requirements, I took the time to research the Client. I checked them out on their social channels, performed an SEO scan of their website, and reviewed their Google Business page. I found that the Client had little to no Twitter followers, minimal Facebook engagement, a handful of LinkedIn Connections, zero keyword listings on their website, and was missing important information on their Google Business page. Although their website is beautiful and worth customer engagement, this Client is just not primed to see the marketing results that they wanted.

Before I go any further, I think it's important to say I believe in my clients and want them to succeed. When I sign on to a project, I want you to feel like you have a partner and support invested in your business's success. Even before I land a client, this is the personalized approach I take.

I knew that addressing the SEO issues, rounding out the Google Business page, and putting in significant effort building an organic base would be a launchpad for growth that would far exceed the Client's expectations for this marketing campaign.

So I set to work generating two project proposals, one that fulfilled the Client's request and another that outlined a 42 point marketing plan. The Client was appreciative of the extra steps that I took to consider their needs and present them with a detailed plan and directions for maximizing their outcomes. In the end, the Client chose to move forward with the 42 point plan.

Getting started on the project was a lot more strenuous on the Client than I think they understood it would be; In fact, I have heard several times this week. "You want me to do what?" or "Wait, I have another thing to do?" Still, the truth of the matter is that organic growth is hard work. Still, it will, hands down, always be the bedrock of your business and make any paid advertising significantly more effective.

The plan that I put together has already generated a 500% increase in the Client's social base. A 1200% traffic increase directly to the website with a 35% return visitor rate, and we haven't even launched the quiz yet. When the time does come to launch, which is still a couple of weeks off, I am sure these numbers will grow even further, and the Client will see a whole new level of engagement on their platform.
